Danville Commissions seek members

Danville residents interested in helping to shape the growth and character of their community are encouraged to apply to fill vacancies on various Town Commissions. City Clerk Marie Sunseri announced that the Town of Danville is seeking volunteers to take part in the following commissions:

• Parks and Leisure Services Commission: Four positions are sought on the commission, which is the primary advisory body overseeing the acquisition, development and maintenance of parks and recreational facilities. The four year term begins July 1, 2010. In addition, a two-year term Youth Commissioner position is available beginning in Summer/Fall of 2010.

• Arts Commission: A Youth Commissioner is needed on the Arts Commission. The Commission serves the Town Council in an advisory capacity in areas relating to arts and culture in Danville. The two year term begins in Summer/Fall 2010.

• Contra Costa County Advisory Council on Aging: One position is open on the council, which works with the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors in addressing issues and programs aimed at the county’s elder population. The two year term begins Oct.1, 2010.

• Central Contra Costa Transit Authority Accessible Services Committee: The Town is seeking a representative to sit on the committee, which reviews and advises the CCCTA on issues of accessibility.

The primary requirement for all of the positions is that the applicant must be a Danville resident. In the case of the Youth Commissioners, the only requirement is that they must be a Danville resident of high school age. Application deadline is May 24, 2010 before 4:00 p.m. After the applications are received, the Town Council will interview applicants and announce appointments at an upcoming meeting.

Applications for the various positions are available online at www.ci.danville.ca.us or interested residents can contact Marie Sunseri, Danville City Clerk at 314-3401 or msunseri@ci.danville.ca.us.
