On Saturday, April, 24, about 75 Rotarians from the Alamo, Danville, Danville-Sycamore, San Ramon and San Ramon Valley Rotary clubs divided up into teams of 3 and visited homes of seniors who needed assistance in changing their batteries in their existing smoke detectors and replacing smoke detectors over 10 years old. This service was provided FREE of charge.

Rotarians started their day with a presentation given by the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District on proper placement of smoke detectors and explaining the File of Life program. Then the Rotarians went to work gathering smoke detectors and batteries for the area they were assigned. Home Depot in San Ramon made a generous donation of $300 towards smoke detectors and also donated 50 more smoke detectors for this wonderful program. Also a big thank you goes to Randy Perkins with Safe Security who donated 200 batteries.

The Senior Smoke Detector program was a huge success. Rotarians were able to install 140 smoke detectors and change 375 batteries in homes within the Alamo, Blackhawk, Danville, Morgan Territory, Tassajara Valley and San Ramon areas.

A resident wrote a letter stating, “I wanted to express my appreciation and thanks to the Rotary Clubs for their great service. They were all very efficient, neat and knew what they were doing and did a great job.”

The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District was proud to partner up with this program and provide a fire safety information packet to each home. Look for this wonderful community service to happen again next in April 2011. For more information on great community events Click Here
