Over 400 volunteers from the six San Ramon Valley congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spent Saturday cleaning up the historic Forest Home Farm in San Ramon. Barns were painted, irrigation systems were installed, weeds pulled and truckloads of mulch were spread over the 16 acre property.

Pat Boom, former San Ramon Mayor, and San Ramon Historic Foundation Board Member was ecstatic! "It would have taken us years to accomplish this on our own. We just don't have the manpower or the resources to accomplish a Herculean task like this."

The past few years, San Ramon Valley Mormons have painted schools in Richmond in a day of service called Mormon Helping Hands. Lance Hale, Bishop of the San Ramon First Ward, and Valley resident since 1971 said, "It was great getting our families together today and help beautify such a gem in our own backyard - we should do this more often."

Even San Ramon Mayor Abram Wilson spent a couple of hours encouraging the hundreds of volunteers. "It's so great to see families spending their Saturday working together for such a wonderful purpose" said Wilson. Later Mayor Wilson addressed the entire group over their lunch break, thanking them for their generous donation of their time and talent.

All over the state of California over 70,000 Mormons spent Saturday, May 8th assisting in renewing city, county and state parks.
