The Castro Valley High Athletic Boosters is holding its first annual “Run-to-Play” 5K run/walk, 10K run, and kids’ fun run on Sunday, June 13. Proceeds from the run go to support Castro Valley High School’s athletic programs.

The race starts at Castro Valley High School. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m., with the 5K and 10K race beginning at 8:00 a.m. The kids’ fun run, for children 8 and under, will take place at approximately 9:30 a.m. There will be booths at the event and activities including a petting zoo and clay tile painting for children.

The “Run-to-Play” is one of the components of the CVHS Athletic Boosters fund-raising efforts. The group is working to raise $265,000 by June 2010 in response to school district budget cuts that eliminated funding for athletics in the upcoming academic year. “The response from individuals and businesses in the community response has been amazing,” said James Crosby, current Boosters Board vice president. “We’re going to keep building on that momentum, and look forward to the Run-to-Play becoming an annual tradition here in Castro Valley.”

Registration for the race can be done online at On Your Mark Events Click Here (until June 10), mailed in to On Your Mark Events (by June 7), or dropped off at Norma’s Jeans, 20881 Redwood Road in Castro Valley (by June 7). For more information Click Here
