Free Range Opera presents: Irene—A Cinderella Story
November 9, 2013 @ 2:15 am - 4:30 pm$30
2:15pm-4:30pm   Record-breaking, ragtime-era Broadway hit musical revival benefits Bay Area charity, Career Closet.
Irene’s popularity marked a turning point in the history of musical comedy,  featuring the down-to-earth book musical style that would come to dominate the 20th Century.
An intimate revival of the long-running ragtime musical will be presented  by Free Range Opera at Mountain View CPA from Nov. 1 to 3, 2013, and at Lesher Center in Walnut Creek on Nov. 9th, 2013.
As with all Free Range Opera’s “For A Cause” shows, the net proceeds from the performance of Irene will be donated to a local charity. The profits from this production benefit the Bay Area charity, Career Closet, an organization that assists disadvantaged women and men to make a great first impression and re-enter the workplace. Career Closet helps by providing the very sort of dressing-for-success that the show’s main character finds can be unexpectedly life changing.
Free Range Opera was founded with inspiration by The Savoy Company (in Philadelphia) and New York’s Blue Hill Troupe; raising funds for good causes, while preserving musical heritage. Following their philanthropic approach, Free Range Opera is a purely volunteer, non-profit arts organization made up of music professionals and very talented amateurs, dedicated to delivering great performances and doing real good for the community.

About Free Range Opera:
Free Range Opera Theater, Inc. is a freshly hatched non-profit organization, whose mission is to restore, revive, and preserve our historic musical heritage while raising funds for other deserving causes. FRO donates all profits from our main-stage vintage operettas and musicals to local non-profits chosen at the start of each production. ‘Irene’ will benefit Bay Area charity, Career Closet.
Nearly a century old, Irene tells the timeless story of a poor, Irish-American shop girl, Irene O’Dare and her two friends, who are all swept into the world of dressmaker Madame Lucy, and hilariously caught up in the whirl of New York high-fashion and Long Island society. This is a rare opportunity to hear the original, which ran for a then-record 675 performances on Broadway.
